Meet Catherine Virginia, our newest niece.
A couple of weekends ago, my mom and I flew up to Virginia to meet Catherine and visit with my brother's family. It was a short visit but so much fun.

We met Catherine, who was so good the entire time.

I had made a sign for Cate's room based on the bedding set they'd registered for...only to actually arrive and realize that it wasn't the same set that they actually got. Sometimes surprises don't work out how you want them to. At least the colors coordinated. :-)

On the Saturday we were there, all 8 of us loaded into Jason's minivan and headed to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for some Boyds Bears shopping and a battlefield visit.
I'd never been to Pennsylvania (beyond driving through a small sliver of it when I was 10) before and was completely taken by how beautiful it was. It was a bit early for the leaves to be changing, but you could see the first signs of fall starting to peek out.

An Abraham Lincoln Boyds Bear. They also have other Civil War Boyds Bears, appropriately named Mason and Dixon.

Outside of Boyds Bears, they had cute little photo op places as well as a place to make a scarecrow, paint a pumpkin or go on a hayride. It made me miss Jonathan and the kids. They would have loved that part.
After lunch and finishing up at Boyds, we headed to the battlefield. We were there a few hours and I only got the abridged version of the tour from my brother. I very much want to go back with Jonathan. Pretty much at every stop I kept thinking about how much he would appreciate being there. For me, it was hard to grasp how someplace that was really so peaceful and beautiful could have been the site of such a bloody battle.

Charles on one of the rocks at Devil's Den. While we were stopped there, we saw a bridal party getting pictures. While it really was beautiful, it seemed like a battlefield was a strange place for wedding photos.
