On Thursday, August 28, the kids had their first Upward soccer games of the year.

Ben and Rosemary’s games were at the same time for most of the season, so after watching a bit of Rosemary’s game, Charlotte and I headed over to see Ben’s game.

A week after school started, I took a few pics of our morning.

We started back to school on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
We thoroughly enjoyed our summer and the break from school, but there is something satisfying about getting back into the rhythm of a school week.
This summer I spent more time prepping than other summers. I decided to change a few things and I knew that the more I prepped now, the better things would go in the long run. Also, with two kids officially in school now, there’s simply more to get done each day. It does seem though that there is a shift in third grade. Rosemary’s work is more independent, but not entirely. However, while she might do some things on her own, I find that I really need to be on top of those subjects just as much so the work load isn’t too different.
This was one of the changes for the year. We moved our main school books to a bookshelf in the dining room. It makes things a little tight through there, but it has proven to be so helpful to have the books so easily accessible and not stacked in a box or a closet. I guess I have come to terms with school stuff just being out.

We headed to breakfast at the Flying Biscuit as a family to celebrate our first day back.
After breakfast, we got a few first day of school pictures.
And we had to take some at the door, too, although the sun was a bit bright this time.

I’m learning with Ben that traditional grade levels don’t really work as well. His plan is a mixture of kindergarten and first grade work.

Soccer started back up the same day as ballet, so as soon as the girls were finished with dance, they changed and we made our way to practice.
Rosemary knew all but one teammate and even had the same coach as last year.
Ben had the same coach, too. Jonathan. Ben was quite excited to get back to soccer.

When ballet started back up this year, Rosemary was not the only one to go. Charlotte started taking lessons as well and as it works out, their classes meet at the same time.
