Our first full day in Virginia was Labor Day, so our nieces and nephew were off of school and we could all do something together. We settled on going to Mount Vernon. It was one of the places we definitely wanted to go on our trip and it ended up being a great place to go with a big group.
Before heading to the house, we watched a movie about Washington. I sat with Charlotte and she paid such careful attention, but was terribly confused by the fact that not every man with white hair and ponytail was George Washington. This proved to be confusing for most of the trip.
After the movie, we headed up to the house for our scheduled tour time.
We stopped for a few pictures on our way up. Nikki was even asked to take a video of one of the docents playing his fife. Strange.
The kids did so well, every single one of all eight that were there, as we went through the house.
After the house tour, we looked around the grounds and some of the outbuildings.
And up to the Slave Memorial.
And over to the barn.
By this time, we were all hot. We waited for a shuttle bus that never came before walking back up to the house and getting some lunch at the Visitor’s Center.
After lunch, we finished up with the other outbuildings.

In one of the rooms, we talked with Martha Washington. Rosemary even got to ask her a question. She asked her how many children she had.
Then we enjoyed the breeze from the Potomac from the verandah.
From there, we headed to the museum.
Charlotte enjoyed the children’s area quite a bit.
She made bean picture of Geo. Washington.
And we got a group pic before we left.
