I think we’ve just about got the baby’s room ready…finally. It hasn’t been a top priority because we basically had the stuff ready that needed to be ready and I wanted to make it through Christmas first, but it’s nice having a pretty room to bring the baby home to.
With both Rosemary and Ben, we waited to find out their gender until the day they arrived. We know we’re having a girl this time and I wanted to have a girly nursery without spending a bunch of money. It’s likely that the girls will share a room once the baby’s bigger so I didn’t want to go too crazy transforming the room which will likely be Ben’s again. Initially, I’d thought I’d paint it, but I found some fabric that had blue and pink in it so we nixed the paint plans. Perhaps one of the best decisions we’ve made in recent months. I don’t know when we would have fit that in!
So far, I’ve spent about $15 on fabric for the transformation and was given a crib sheet as a gift. The rest either came from Rosemary’s butterfly room or I had on hand. Sure there are other things I’d like to add, but I can wait and find things in the coming months.

By the changing table, pre-Ben
Changing table today. I just made the pennant from scraps of leftover fabric and I’m thinking I’ll add the baby’s initial or maybe a newborn photo to that wall. Not that we’ve picked a name yet, but by the time she comes home we’ll have one. :-)
The diaper stacker. I just disassembled the old one and made a pattern from it. I think I need to add something to the top. And it looks all whopperjawed because the hanger that it’s on is only half a hanger. I need a kid’s sized hanger with a rotating metal part and those are hard to find.
The crib. The bottom layer crib skirt was the bed skirt from Rosemary’s old bed that I just cut apart and made it to fit the crib. The floral print was what I bought at Joann’s and the blue ticking stripe was from an old set of sheets. I didn’t make a bumper because I hardly used the bumper with the other two. It just made me nervous. If I find I need one with this baby, I’ll just get a breathable bumper pad.

Window wall now. The curtains were from Rosemary’s room and the shadowboxes on the sides were in her room too. If I can find something to replace those, I probably will, but for now, they work. And I just made a pillowcase for the red pillow on the blue chair. Another benefit on keeping the room blue was not feeling like I had to recover the glider. And don’t the car seat really add a lot to the room? :-)
In one of the shadowboxes is Rosemary’s coming home dress.
The little pink dress is this baby’s coming home outfit. Not exactly the same, but pretty close I think. I found it at a consignment sale a few months ago for about $6. Beside the dress is our little girl’s first tutu. A friend had asked me to make one for her as a gift for someone so I just made one for us at the same time.
The west wall is not so exciting and needs a bit of updating still…the red lampshade needs to be replaced, but I’ll get to that post baby. I’ve seen where people have recovered shades, but I’m not sure I could do that and it look decent.
I also made a few things to get ready for the baby. The fuzzy black and white baby blanket in the top left, a couple of bibs, a pocket sling and matching burp cloth, a Moby-like wrap, and some crocheted baby hats and a diaper cover. I just recently learned how to crochet. The first hat I made was so small that I gave it to Rosemary to use for her baby dolls.
I also made a new nursing cover. I’d made a similar one for my sister-in-law with eyelet and really liked how it turned out. So I made one for me and for one of her sisters too.
It’s lined so it’s not as thin as eyelet tends to be, and then I put the minky fabric in the corner for a pocket.
And I realized I haven’t posted a single ultrasound photo of baby #3, so here one is (sorry about the glare). I had this done about a month ago and they did a couple of the photos in 4D.
